Patchwork | A2 relief sculpture, limited edition of 10
Thirty cows. Every one different. Every one painted individually with its own combination of spots, tones and small acts of colour — a proper super-herd, arranged as a grid so you can take them all in at once, or find your favourite one and come back to it.
This piece is a love letter to Elmer the Patchwork Elephant — the David McKee book that taught a generation of children that the odd one out was actually the whole point. Elmer's lesson translated to hillside: individuality within community, difference as the source of the beauty, not the disruption of it.
It's also, quietly, the most labour-intensive piece I've made. Thirty cows to cut. Thirty coats to paint. Thirty raised into a 5mm floating relief. In real life the shadows shift across the grid as the light in the room changes — the herd never stands quite the same way twice.
